Arjun Sriram Wins The Under 12 Nationals title..

It was a fantastic week for the Tams Boys and the cherry on the the cake was Arjun winning the Under 12 Title.. And ending up as Runners up in the Under 14 doubles along with Sandesh

There was lil bit of a heart burn at the start of the week with Arjun(top Seed) & Sandesh(Third Seed) on having to play their 1st rounds with the tams students Adarsh and Rishikesh respectively.. They marched on from two keenly contested matches..

Madhvan(Eighth Seed) Moved up effortlessly till he met Ananth RamKumar((fourth Seed). It was a big match but Madhavan wrapped up in 2 sets to set up a semifinals clash with his buddy and mate Arjun…

There was Mixed fortune for Sandesh. He had to play Kavan Kumar in both Under 12 and Under 14 Quarters.. He beat kavan in a closely contested Under 14 match in the morning but lost a close under 12 encounter in the eve. His Win in under 12 would have seen 3 semifinalist out of 4 from Tams. All at Tams were eager for such an event..

Semifinals :: Madhavan’s poor rhythm for the morning saw him losing the first set but he pulled up his game to give a tough fight to Arjun. The set was filled with amazing rallies(of which one point saw 110 shots being exchanged) & recoveries from Madhavan but Arjun wrapped it up with some fine winners which gave him the passage to the finals… to meet Kavan

Finals :: Arjun had the upper hand on paper with a 3-0 win record with Kavan. But this was a final, we at Tams knew that only time will tell the outcome not the past record.

Kavan took the first set with ease breaking Arjun twice. Arjun just couldnt get into his game. Soon he was facing Kavan’s match point at 3-5 (30-40). He saved the first one and then the next in the same game before he went on to win the game and the next to make it 5-5. Arjun lost his next service game but broke kavan back to go into the tie breaker where he was down 4-5. Arjun took the next 3 points to win the tie breaker 7-5 and the set to make it one set all. The final set was decided by a super tie breaker(Race to 10 points with a difference of 2 points)

Super Tie Breaker :: Arjun was down 2-3 in the Super Tie Breaker but soon won the next 7 points in a row to lead 9-3, he was just a point away from his First nationals title.. Everybody from his side waited with bated breath for the one point to happen but what followed was a nerve wreaking 6 points.. Kavan with some brilliant show of nerves took one point after another to see himself at 9-9. Kavan saved 6 match points, Arjun’s patience and confidence wore thin when they came for side change. Arjun composed himself and walked into the court to see himself earn the next point & the 7th match point. Kavan again came back with a brilliant rally to make it 10 all. Match was getting too intense for all supporters and the players.. Arjun with some awesome stroke play got another point, so did Kavan to make it 11 all. Both were fighting endlessly to win the war of rallies which ensued for the next match point which Arjun won eventually. The 24th point of the super tie breaker was nail biting with both the players staying back and rallying it out, there were a few close shaves with the lines and the net, in a brilliant display of courage and stroke making Arjun put a drop which Kavan missed to give Arjun the point, tie breaker and the match.

Emotions ran high for all…

Overall it was a great week with Arjun Partnering Sandesh went to the finals of the Under 14 doubles which they eventually lost to the Top seeds and a much older pair.
