Sandesh Wins Noah Sports Aita Nationals

A bad run in the previous weeks tournament prompted Sandesh to play this event, only to prove a point to himself and his team that he was in form both mentally and physically. The event itself would have been a unfruitful one if not for his Semifinals and the finals clash..

Sandesh had to play an in-form Deepak.A to whom he had lost a year back. He was more than willing to prove to everyone that the loss he suffered was a freak accident and nothing more.. Deepak played brilliantly during that encounter to capitalise an error prone start that Sandesh provided.. So with that as the background the Semis with Deepak started only to see Sandesh steam rolling Deepak 8-1 with not even a single game going to Duece, which we all thought was awesome but boy we were in for a bigger surprise.

The Finals was with Manish G who had gotten better of Sandesh in the last 2 encounters and the last meeting especially was a bitter one for Sandesh which saw him a set and 4-2 up. He lost his way in that match and ended up pretty upset.

The finals started after a brief break after the Semis.. Sandesh continued his superb run well into the Finals holding off all the deuce points that was there on the table and with that he clinched the 1set 6-0. Second set started off with a stiff fight from Manish but Sandesh held his nerves to rac
e to a 3-0 lead. A brilliant game from Manish saw him get on to the score board finally. We were a little perturbed with the momentum swinging towards Manish coz the 5th game went into a deuce and we all were wondering whether the ghost from the recent past will visit Sandesh again. But Sandesh with his stoic resistance ended up winning the game and straightening the next 2 games to win the title 6-0,6-1.

Now thats how you convince your critics Sandesh, Way to go…

Chandrika Wins Katppa CS7 Nationals in Bangalore

This was a brilliant run by Chandrika, every round she played right from the first one till the final was a big win..

The first round was pitted against the ever competitive performer Parvvi Patil whom she sailed past to meet Vanshitha Pathania who is again a gritty performer, against whom Chandrika had to bring about her best to get past her.

Her Quarterfinals against Naisha Srivastav was a match of see-saw with both struggling to get the right rhythm. Chandrika had to hold back her unforced errors to pull the win 6-4,6-3

Semifinals was against academy mate Apoorva who clearly had an upper hand considering her good form but a few uncanny errors off the racket of Apoorva saw Chandrika clinch the first set in a tie-breaker and her defiant attack saw her win the round in a closely contested match.

Shruthi had bested Simran in the other Semifinals which was a nail biters which went all the way to the 3rd set . Finals against Shruthi was expected to be a cracker of an event and it did meet the expectations.. Both the girls were toe-to-toe in the games before Chandrika used her Groundstrokes smartly to outwit shruthi and snatch the win and with that her 1st CS title for 2015.

We surely expect quite a few from this Lass!!!WP_20150703_002 WP_20150703_004 WP_20150703_007

Nitin wins Under 12 Nationals

It was a hard fought week for the guys and girls from Tams. A lot of them battled against their own friends coz the draw was clustered. But the week didn’t go without its share of ups and downs..

Nitin Varma Vegesna has been in the thick of things for some time now, we at Tams were desperate for him to turn things around. He had pumped in his fair share of extra hardwork for a fortnight and that eventually saw him land in the Semi-finals where he had to face Siddarth K.K, a good player whom Nitin had beaten couple years ago in an Under 10 Semifinals which was pretty close by all standards..

Nitin opened the semis with Siddarth quite well seizing the lead and winning the first set easily. Couple of crucial points in the early stages of the second set saw Siddarth capture the momentum and Nitin’s frustration jumped to another level coz his winners were coming thin and far. Nitin ended up losing the 2nd set and the match headed into a decider final set. The 3rd set was a seesaw with Nitin being down 3-4, again a crucial couple of errors from Nitin saw him down 3-5. The ninth game was nerve wrecking with both of trading blows, Siddarth eventually ended up with a match point, a long fought rally saw Nitin pull things under control to deuce and finally managing to clinch the next 2 points and the game to make it 4-5.

The Semifinals was getting close by every passing minute, the 10th game was a relief for us as Nitin rallied brilliantly to get the momentum and the game to make it 5-5. Nitin breezed through the next 2 games with his new found energy to win the semifinals 6-2, 2-6,7-5 after being a match point down at 3-5.

The Finals with Akarsh Goankar

Akarsh is a promising lad from Bangalore and has been having great run in the recent past tournaments. Nitin had played him only once before and that was last month in a semifinal which he lost to him and eventually Akarsh went on to win the tournament. So we were well prepared for what was to come. We left no stone unturned..

In the first set Nitin played brilliantly constructing each and every point and finishing it off with a winner. Winners were steadily flowing from Nitin’s racquet which saw him clinch the 1st set 6-4. The 2nd set start had a flurry of unforced errors from Nitin coupled with moon balling from Akarsh and due to the lack of space between the baseline and the fence in that facility Nitin’s woes continued. Eventually after a few knee jerks Nitin lost the set 2-6..

Arjun & Sandesh in the finals of Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) in Colombo, Sri Lanka

Tams boys produce a good show in Colombo, Srilanka

Under 12 Karnataka No.1 Arjun Sriram  and Karnataka No.2 Sandesh Kantimahanti won their respective singles Semifinals to make it for summit title clash of the Asian Tennis Federation juniors which is a Under 14 age category trow in the Srilankan Tennis Association courts here in Colombo.

Arjun fought brilliantly in a tight match to beat Ashensilva Sangarajage of Srilanka 6-2,6-1. The match was too close right from the start with Arjun winning all the close points which made the score line look so easy.. The 2nd game of the first set alone ran upto 17 dueces…

Sandesh made short work of his semis beating Sean Sanderson of Srilanka 6-0,6-0. The precision with which Sandesh executed his strokes gave Sean nothing to work with, so much so that Sean had just 2 game points the entire match which Sandesh deftly put it away for clean winners..

It will be a exciting final to be played by best buddies, hitting partners, academy mates, India No.8 & India No.9 separated by just 2.5 national ranking points..

Sandesh Wins GTA AITA National Ranking on 03 Dec 2013

This Tournament was a see-saw of events for the Tams(Tennis And More Sporting) boys, the top half of the boys draw was loaded with a strong contingent of tams guys…Out of the top 8 seeds four seeds were from Tams and three were in the top half of the draw..

The tournament began with the same fanfare and proceeded till the pre-quarters (round of 16) without much of a heart burn. The first causality from Tams was Madhavan (seed 4) who lost to in-form Rajesh Kannan.  Then Arjun Sriram (Top Seed) from Tams had to play Rohan Arun who is also from Tams and is a student of Gear Foundation school. Rohan’s performance was excellent throughout the season; he was coming into the prequarter with an excellent win against the seeded & experienced Abeer Dubey. The match started out with a tight competition with both boys trading blows and games before couple of line calls went against Rohan and thus resulted in his loss of focus which got him derailed. Rohan lost a hard fought match but was soon to say that his loss of focus on the line calls was the event that triggered the result against his favor, A lesson learnt at the end but with a price….

Quarter-finals:

Top Seed Arjun had to play Adarsh Arun (also from TAMS). Adarsh had an outstanding win in the previous round against Nikhil Niranjan, after trailing 0-4, he pulled himself to beat Nikhil 8-6. Adarsh was quick to finish the first set with just 2 unforced errors and later vanquished a fighting Arjun to win the match and thus entering the semi-finals

ENTER third seed Sandesh Kantimahanti student of TAMS & Gear Foundation School, his Quarters was lined up with Deepak A. Big hitting Deepak can create a buzz whenever & wherever he plays and he did just that against Sandesh, he ran away to a 3-0 lead in the first set before Sandesh found his form & his winning ways to take the 1st set 5-4(tie breaker score 7-4)and then the next set at 4-0, with that the match..

Our Excitement at Tams was hanging in a balance, excited coz 2 of the 4 semifinalists were from TAMS but then they were to play each other in the Semi’s.

The match started with the in-form Adarsh racing to a 2-0 lead, it was after that our very own master of comebacks woke up and pitched in a heavy duel, Sandesh took the 1st set without even blinking twice at 6-2 after being down 0-2.. The second set  raced to a 5-2 lead in Sandesh’s favor but Adarsh mounted a huge late fight to level the 2nd set at 5-5, not long before it went down to the wire at 6-6 and the Tie Breaker(race to 7 points with a difference of 2 points). Sandesh showed some brilliant consistency which saw him win the tiebreaker, the set and the match.

Finals :

Finals is always a nerve wrecker even for some seasoned Pro’s, Now imagine Sandesh all of eleven years, playing his first Under 12 Nationals. Not only was he on the line but his entire support team right from his Driver, to the tennis Academy watch-man to the manager, his On-court Hitter to the Ball Feeder, the parents (with his dad on a flight to the US) and his coach(That’s me, my patience is legendary as most of you who is reading this should already be aware of). I had to be there to see for myself how it will unfold.

The Finals was against the Heavy hitting Sharaniyan. The match went even in the 1st set before Sharaniyan had a set point at 5-4. An unforced error from him saw Sandesh level the 1st set at 5-5 and then the set went into a tie breaker. Sandesh kept his cool and took the tie breaker at 7-2, with that the 1st set. The 2nd set was bull dozed by Sharaniyan with him racing to a 3-0 lead, again our master of comebacks caught up to make it 2-3, but even before we could sigh a relief he lost the next game to be down 2-4. Sandesh realized this was it.. he came up with a string of great shots to win the next 4 games in a row and with that he wrapped up his 2nd set and the match. His first Nationals title.. He truly deserved it for the amount of effort he pumped in for the last 2 years…. Kudos to his hard work. Keep it up boy…
